Sunday Peak 2008-12-06

I went on a hike to Sunday Peak (8295') which is about 3.5 miles round trip with an elevation gain of roughly 1100 ft.. The trailhead has a sign, and the trail is very clear and well maintained. The area at the peak used to be a fire lookout, but they burned it down when it was discontinued. The register is in a nice box, and there is a sign to mark the peak where the lookout used to stand. Normally the view West is very hazy, but on this day the air was very clear. In this photo taken from Sunday Peak you can see the Needles, Castle Rock, Olancha, Langley, and Whitney. On this trip we also did Portuguese Peak, Bull Run Peak, Tobias Peak/Lookout, and Baker Point/Lookout. Sunday Peak and these others are all on the Greenhorn Summit near the Kern River Valley.
