You got lucky on your first glissade without having tried it before in controlled circumstances. Where'd the knee pain come from? Running into the cute lady probably eased the pain a bit.
I definitely got lucky, though I think that slope was ideal for a beginner like me. It was not too steep, and eased out near the bottom before a boulder field. I think I just strained something in my knee on the descent, although it might have been a culmulative thing from the past few days; it probably wasn't used to the hard packed Colorado dirt mixed with the loose scree/talus. I found out later that trekking poles would help in such an occasion.
I do wish I had talked to her more, but my number priority at the time, unfortunately, was to get some food.
