Sounds like an ambitious trip you had planned, and well-executed. Hopefully you're back in Tejas planning your next 14er trip. Maybe 3 next time, eh? The reason I like your trip report is that it is up-front and unassuming, with interesting appendix beta for other out-of-staters.
It was fun and challenging. I figured if I'm going to take off work, fly to Colorado and rent a car, I might was well get the most out of it while I'm there! I'm just glad we were able to acclimatize and not be O2'd out.
Dan Brown couldn't have done better. I am a bit surprised in that you did not prod your sisters "to greater heights" as it were, to join you at the 'top of the world'. Perhaps this was only step one of a multi-pronged effort in this regard ??
I'm sure you'll do fine. I would highly suggest camping at altitude and taking a couple of days to get used to the lack of O2 higher up. I climbed Mt Bierstadt first and it really kicked my butt, even though all of the beta suggests that it is one of the 'easiest' 14ers. I felt a LOT better on Mt Elbert a couple of days later. I'd also suggest driving up Mt Evans to deprive yourself of some oxygen. The drive and scenery are worth it. Good luck and have a great trip - Colorado is beautiful!
