Great hike
Fabulous views, gorgeous forests, and solitude -- at least on the way up. What's not to like? One note of caution: The dirt road was very rough and I got a flat tire in my low clearance vehicle. I didn't see any notes on the poor quality of the road in any of the guides I checked, so thought I'd mention it.

Great hike
Saw a baby rattler on the trail, near the turnout with the giant hole in the rock.
I spent a lot of time in this area, hiking to the top of Tahquitz Peak and bouldering in the parking lot with my high school Phys Ed class. Last time I was here was in December of 1999. I'd like to go back soon.
Penelope and I hiked the South Ridge Trail on January 15, 2007 all the way from the High Castle area of Idyllwild (due to winter road closure). We crossed the Tahquitz Bowl to Humber Park on some deep and at places fairly frozen snow (no crampons needed). Another good day in our neigborhood
