Shadow Canyon
Hiked up here while I was helping my sister move from Boulder to Moscow, Idaho. Ran into lots of people using this as a daily running route. Such people are more fit than I am.

Mesa Trail/Shadow Canyon
A quick outing with a couple friends. Nice climb to the top, but views were lacking today - overcast. The mini scramble at the top was a nice treat. We hit Bear Peak next.

Traverse from Bear Peak
Awesome views from Long's to Pikes. No reason not to go there once you're already on Bear. Again, could have done without the killer gnats.

This combo makes a great all day adventure. We did it in about 7 hours round trip from Chatauqua.

Bear-S. Boulder-Bear-Green traverse
"Stuck" out here on a business trip, gosh-darn. First hike in CO, and 'twas a great day. Snow on 98% of the trail, firm enough except the west side of Green, which was a post-holing nightmare. Weather looked like it was going to come in and sock me, but at every potential bail-out point on my loop, it didn't get any closer. Beautiful day bottom to top.
Nice hike, though I am always amazed at how this and Bear peak both take it out of me. I had to take a few breaks along the way, but loved the views from the top. Some dark clouds were moving in making for a great contrast.

Perfect Day For It
Shadow Canyon was free of ice and snow. Snow on S. Boulder Peak itself, but wet enough yet even packed trail could be easily step-kicked. Hardly any wind coming over the saddle. Was looking at ridge run to Shirt Tail Peak. Don't know if it's possible, but looked like OK route from top of S. Boulder Pk.

Icy Shadow Canyon
trail was ice packed from the recent traffic and warming/freezing conditions which made for treachous passage. almost slipped and killed myself 1,2,3,4.....many times, don't remember. the devil's thumb looks awesome from this side.

Climbed this as an extension of a hike up Bear Peak. Cold and windy, with some icy sections on the trail. This hike (NCAR - Bear Peak - South Boulder Peak) is great --- easily accessible, great views, and difficult enough for a nice training piece or a day hike with a mixed-ability group.
Route Climbed: west ridge of bear pk. Date Climbed: late march /or early april 2005
this is my favorite mtn. in close proximity to boulder. the top has great views, all the way south to pikes. last time i climbed it the entire mtn. from the saddle up was covered w/about 3 ft. of solid snow pack. this was fun w/o an axe.
