Route Description

Slope: 1169m.
Time to summit: 4h 30min.

We start at 908 meters near the signal. We follow the path for the forest for 30 min to the hermit in ruins (Ermita de la Virgen de la Fabana). From the hermit follow the cairns of stones and take direction to a great break in the mountains called "Las Gargantas". Inicially in the forest and later in creeks we come near the gargantas but we must go to the left for the ravine bordering the gargantas for behind. According to the epoch of the year the ravine has a changeable wealth in the creeks that cross it and can be difficult though only it is a slight dip if we fall in someone of the fords.
After leaving the creeks we begin to gain height for a nice forest under the hillsides of the mounts Montidinera and Fragineto in the so called Barranco de los Valles. It is important that the cairns that we follow always will be to the right (don't take the mark to the left side that go to the Col of Fragineto).
We will come to a balcony with a view to the ravine and we follow always for the right up to the Col of Petreñales (1552m, 2h 20min).
From here we will view the impressive mass of the Tozal de Guara that is not so far away as seems. In the Col it is necessary to give many attention to look to the right for the way that one enters in the forest.
For our desperation the way goes down towards a ravine but it is not necessary to worry since immediately we return to climb towards the great clear one in the forest called Llano de los Hongos (plain of the fungi).
The exit of the plain is indicated towards the col that is spied eastwards. For a hard slope across a narrow path in the forest we will come to the south face of the Tozal de Guara. We will begin to promote the hillside of serpent form needing at some time the use of the hands in small steps of rocks. The hillsides are full of low bushes that is inconvinient in occasions and can conceal the cairns for what we will have to give attention.
In this hillside it has not lost since it is evident that it is necessary to gain height little by little for a hard slope. After overcoming an pre-summit we will follow the crest up to appearing almost for surprise in the nice summit crowned by a cross (the Puntón of Guara). (2077m, 4h 30min).
