Approach

The normal ascent starts on Peitlerscharte, 2357m. below are listed some of the most used approaches:

From Würzjoch (Passo delle Erbe) directly

From the parking lot at Würzjoch start in the direction of Formella Alm (20min). There take the right hand trail (marked 8A) which leads through the Kompatsch meadows and around Kleiner Peitlerkofel. Here a short rugged ascent (secured by cables) leads to a trail named after Günther Messner (Reinhold's brother who died in 1970 while descending from Nanga Parbat). This trail finally leads into Peitlerscharte (2357m) where the normal route starts. The whole ascent takes 1h 30min.

From Würzjoch (Passo delle Erbe) via Gömmajoch

From Würzjoch, again take the trail towards Formella Alm. There take the left hand trail through meadows towards Gömma Alm (45min). Another 45min of steady ascent lead you to Gömmajoch, where you can enjoy a fantastic view of the whole Fanes-Group. In Gömmajoch turn right over the Peitlermeadows and another 2h take you to Peitlerscharte. This ascent takes about 3h 30min

Zanser Alm
From the parking lot at Zanser Alm follow St. Zeno Creek, which you finally cross after some 10min. From here follow the Adolf Munkel Trail to Gampenalm and onwards to Schlüterhütte (1h 30min). From Schlüterhütte head eastwards to Kreuzkofeljoch (Passo di Poma, 2340m) and in another half hour hike northwards to Peitlerscharte. The ascent takes 2h.

Campill
Leave the car at Seres (1568 m) or Misci (1621 m) on the road to Campill. Take trail no 4 which joins the other approach routes at Peitlerscharte.

Route Description

Start at the Cross in Peitlerscharte and head northeast into the southern flank of Peitlerkofel. The trail winds upwards and splits after 30min. Take the steep right hand trail , which is longer but easier. Another 30min take you to the cut between the two summits and it is here where the ferrata begins. There is a pitch which is not secured but otherwise the climbing is rather easy (I). Take your time on the summit and enjoy the great views.

Essential Gear

Hiking gear is sufficient. The ferrata to the summit of Peitlerkofel is short and easy. You won't need harness and ropes.
