Approach
Start at the Nooksack Cirque trailhead. After several miles, a trail breaks off from the main trail to the right just after the main trail enters old growth timber. The branch goes steeply downhill to the river. Find a log crossing; it has been upsteam. Good luck. On the other side, a faint trail leads up beside the creek coming down from Price Lake, eventually gaining a lateral moraine above the lake. When the moraine ends, go up on the ridge and stay there until it is possible to contour back down toward the lake and gain the scoured granite slabs leading to the edge of the glacier.
Route Description
Work your way around the glacier, aiming for an obvious gap in the rib extending down from Nooksack Tower. Once past the gap, you are on the steep portion of the glacier. Climb a gently rising line toward the North shoulder and the bergschrund. Be aware; you will be travelling parallel to the crevasse pattern. At the top of the glacier, three options present themselves. First and probably safest, is the snow slope leading to the North shouder. Snow pickets may be helpful here. Next is a rock traverse along the base of the North shoulder just before the bergschrund. This bypasses the 'schrund to the right. Last is a bypass on rock to the left up the end of Nooksack ridge. The rock climbing is easier, but access may mean droppig briefly down into the 'schrund. Once past these final difficulties you are on the huge plain of ice below the summit pyramid. Finish as for Fisher chimneys and descend that route. You end up far from your point of departure,so have a plan.
Essential Gear
Glacier gear, 3-4 long ice screws, set of chocks, red through blue tricams. 4-5 pins and a couple of snow pickets may be helpful, depending on your level of comfort. Two tools may speed things up at certain points, but are not absolutely necesary.
