Approach

Start from Kennedy Meadows trailhead, off of Highway 108. Follow the Huckleberry Trail until you get to Emigrant Lake, where you will take the trail west. Follow the trail along the north shore of Emigrant Lake and continue west past Buck Lakes. Take the trail north from Deer Lake and then follow Spring Creek until you get to Wilson Meadow Lake. There are a couple of places to camp along the south/east sides of the lake, altough no fires are allowed at this elevation. The Southern Route begins at Wilson Meadow Lake.

Route Description

Follow the sloping granite slabs northward from the western side of Wilson Meadow Lake. After an intial climb, you'll pass a small yet beautiful green meadow. Continue the ascent due north over mixed lose rock and meadow, with the prominant rock spire as your guide. When you reach the apex of the ridge, turn west towards Granite Dome. It's an easy walk over lose rock until you get near the summit. The final ascent takes you over rotting granite slabs and several bluffs.

Essential Gear

No special equipment is needed during the summer other than for overnight backcountry camping.
