Overview
One of the few mountain in Sweden that require mountineering-skills. The easiest way to climb the mountain would be the west face, a steep and long walk, but not recommended due to very much rocks falling on and around you, going down the west face is very much similar to skiing, but there is no snow, only rocks under your boots.
I would recommend the southwest- or the southeast ridge.
And if you like bigwall try out the famous north face, 500m of vertical rock and ice straight to the top.
Getting There
Nearest city is Kiruna, its easy to get there by train or air, then you take the bus to Nikkaloukta and walk for 18 km to the Kebnekaise Fjallstation, from there its 6-7 km to the Tarfala hut where you can stay or put up a tent by the lake, a very beautiful place and a good basecamp for Kaskasapakte.
Red Tape
It´s free!
When To Climb
The mountain is usually climbed in the summer june-september.
Camping
The nearest hut is the Tarfala hut 2500m from the foot of the mountain, camping is allowed, but not too close to the hut. There are many great spots near Tarfalajaure (Tarfala-lake).
