Re: Sometimes....

Thank you Chief. Was looking forward to getting up to that nice belay where you took that photo of the shuttle bus stop looking essentially straight down. Yeah - it is what it is.

Take it easy

Well written Radek. Even just writing it out should help.

Hard to even read...

But it was made worse by the feeling of helplessness you two had when you couldn't get the attention of anyone after it happened. Give yourselves time to process it all.

By hard to read I mean, I fell off a trail for the first time last week; down about 30 feet of very loose scree and it shook me up so much that after I pulled myself back together etc. I couldn't even bear to take a picture of the slope I'd just fallen down; I was shaking too much anyway.....

Writing helps!

So sorry to read your story

Hi Radek, so sorry to read your story. I imagine how messed up things must seem. Craig once saw a free-soloer plunge to his death right next to him but I've never had anything like that happen, glad to say. Hang tough, take care. Please send Shirley our best wishes too.

Re: So sorry to read your story

Thank you very much Guys. Think seeing a climber fall would've been worse - I know it sounds bad to say but that would've been another level of connecting with the victim. Sorry to hear about that. Take care & thank you.

Re: Thank you Radek...

Sergio - thank you for sharing. Yeah, I have a few family members who are terrified of any hint of exposure. Think it's best not to force things with people. TAke care.

horrible

May the person who fell rest in peace. I watched my friends little brother fall 250 feet down a canyon while we were climbing. Got to the kid and he was still alive and screaming. He got choppered out and died en route to the hospital. Sticks with you for a while and has made me not as careless when I climb. Glad you are ok though man.
