Re: Old Butt Knob/Shining Creek

You may have been at the wrong summit. Most people mistake the summit on this mountain and never make it to the true summit. If you didn't bushwack for at least 7 - 10 minutes and swear you were lost 5 or 10 times, then you were at the wrong summit. Granted the quartz is just as plentiful in both locations, not being at the summit is probably why your GPS gave a different elevation.

Re: Old Butt Knob/Shining Creek

We bushwacked a-plenty with a Shining Rock veteran. GPS? Uh...no...not in 1997. We were still into "USGS Quads" back then. ;) Cheers!

Fun little scramble at the far end of our hike from the Sam Knob area. Very nice looking rock formation.

Fall colors made this beautiful hike even more amazing. A lot of people on the trail but lost most of them north of Tennent Mt.
