Oof!  Sucess!

Climbed as the 4th peak of the day on the Smokies traverse and boy was it a day! Numerous false summits and a lot of route-finding difficulty as it's impossible to tell when you'll get cliffed out, and we honestly didn't think we'd have enough time to make it until we realized we were actually 5 minutes from the real summit. As others have said, trying to keep to the ridge as much as possible is best - descend too much and you'll have some steep, loose, scree-filled sidehilling to contend with. There was at least one point where the ridgeline turned reddish that necessitated a bit of a descent to the west side of the ridge to avoid exposure, but otherwise staying high was best. Opted not to go back over Bromaghin on the way back and instead descended into the nice valley before ascending to the ridge below Titus. About nine miles and 3500' for the full traverse, which doesn't sound TOO crazy, but it's quite grueling!

via Owl Creek  Sucess!

I was short on time, so I skipped the traverse. I think it is quite a bit more efficient from the road up Owl Creek. This is a surprisingly rugged summit compared to other peaks in the vicinity. not exactly sure the best route. I tried to stay near the ridge crest but got pushed off toward the west a couple of times. there is occasional exposure off the east face if you stay on the ridge top

5 in 1!  Sucess!

I went for the Smokies traverse and thought you really get a lot of bang for your buck! My car did most of the vertical. The Owl Creek approach did look more appealing than I imagined though. I added Camas County HP to the end in case I decide to go for ID CoHPs one day. I was surprised by the difficulty of traversing from Saviers to Camas CoHP (I'll post more about it on that page).

I left on the hour so I recall the times:
1:00 Lower Titus
1:30 Titus
2:00 Bromaghin
2:40 Saviers
3:30 Camas
7 hours car to car

My trusty cattle dog was my climbing partner.

Galena to Savier's   Sucess!

This was the most interesting Peak of the day. Hiked Titus and Bromaghin too. Great views.

Route Climbed: Ridge from Galena Summit Date Climbed: July 21st, 2001  Sucess!

This was a tough hike on a up-and-down ridge. Saviers is a cool summit and worth the effort though.

Route Climbed: Standard Date Climbed: August/03  Sucess!

Once of the most grueling hikes I have ever done. Its a tough long day...There were major wildfires burning that day so pictures from that trip were zilch, along with the views, and boy did my lungs hurt days after that. Still a fun hike!
