San Antonio Mtns. High Point  Sucess!

Took a trip south to get to some warmer weather and bagged the San Antonio High Point and Lone Mountain. San Antonio was cold and windy but a nice hike anyway. We made it all the way to the "trailhead" described by Dean.

Visit #2  Sucess!

The road seemed to be a bit rougher this visit but both Dennis and I made it up to what I would consider the trailhead. From there, it was straight up the slopes following cow paths to the saddle and then cross country to the summit. It took only about an hour up and less than that down. This is a very easy hike but maybe the crux is the last bit of road in the narrow canyon section. High clearance and 4WD is a necessity. Good tough tires will help deal with the rocks on the way in. The view from the top is excellent. We met dedicated peakbaggers Bob Packard, Andy Martin and his wife, Richard Carey and Adam Helman from San Diego on the way out and ended up camping with them and having a great visit. They were to go after the peak the next morning.

Found the TH

Ken Jones made the summit while I stayed with the truck. Some back problems made me think twice about going after this one which I knew was going to be easy since I was able to get very close to the mountain in my vehicle. However, back problems are nothing to be stupid about so I let my body recover while Ken battled the wind up higher. I hope the information provided here will be helpful to any others who are interested in this one.
