This is a nice start to the page! I believe if you could get more photos or a route description added, the page woule be a little more helpful in the actual climbing aspect. Very nice start though! Good climbing to you!
excellent page (enjoyable read). Another hidden little gem - reason for why SP is such a cool idea (you get to see mtns. not listed in major climbing books).
Thanks for the vote, Radek. If you're ever around Humboldt County (sort of going the other direction from the mountains most people climb!), this is a nice hike & beautiful area.
Thanks, John. I'd highly recommend it. Great day hike (or overnighter if you're so inclined), awesome views, & no people (how often do you get those 3 in California??!!).
If you don't just head up the north ridge of the mountain cross-country, you'll come to a trail junction 2.9 miles from the trailhead. The right hand fork leads to Red Cap Lake. The left fork is the continuation of the Salmon Summit Tr. From here on, the trail gets little use. There are down logs and areas of moderate to heavy brush, though the route is passable for hikers. At some point, as the trail crosses the southwest face of Salmon Mountain, it becomes an old road bed. The departure of the trail from the road bed down toward High Spring is extremely faint. To climb Salmon Mountain, instead stay on the more distinct old road bed. Continue a short distance, and then turn left uphill to make a cross-country scramble through open forest and dry meadows.
