Approach

Arlington-West Wardsboro Road Trailhead see main page description. This is a popular trailhead.

Route Description

This is the standard route up to the summit of Stratton Mountain. It is also the shortest and fastest route unless you include traversing from the north summit after taking a ski lift up.

From the parking lot enter the woods on the Appalachian/Long Trail. It is well travelled and blazed with white paint on the trees. After 1.4 miles of gently rolling trail, the footpath crosses a paper company road. Then 1.3 miles further after ascending more consistantly the trail reaches a small sag between Little Stratton and Stratton mountains. A moderate ascent starting with switchbacks takes people the remaining .9 miles to the summit.

Essential Gear

Quick and easy, standard dayhiking gear is all that is needed. Of course snow and rain change things dramatically. Be prepared.
