First Climb

By C. Fischer, F.W. Jacomb, W.F Short, Leslie Stephen with Franz-Josef Andenmatten, Moritz Anthamatten, Johann Kronig and Peter Taugwalder. 1 August 1860

Approach

The approach is by the Metro-Alpin to the Mittel Allalin station (see the "Getting There" section in the MAIN PAGE).

Route Description

From the Mittel Allalin station (3.454 m) cross the pistes heading SW of the prominent spur over the initially steep glacier (some crevasses with steep upper lips) and then head up to the Feejoch (aprox. 3.810 m). From the col climb the summit slope in a wide arc and then from the SW gain the summit ridge and summit. There is a short snow arête and finally the top, wich is rocky.

Essential Gear

Rope for a team, crampons, ice axe and winter clothes. Take also a map, compass and altimeter with you; the weather conditions could turn bad quickly.
