Approach

Start at the Rim Village. See main page for elevation (the elevation 8151 feet is for Hillman Peak).

Route Description

Go southeast about a mile to the National Park Headquarters. From there, go on the Circumnavigation route east (about 5 miles) to the base of Dutton Ridge. Ascend the ridge, and go north to the summit. Total length: approximately 14 miles.

Essential Gear

In winter, bring snowshoes or nordic skiis, food, water, and extra clothing.

Weather Conditions

Temperatures from January to March average 19°F at night and 36°F during the day. Temperatures from July to September average 40°F at night and 70°F during the day.
