Approach

Find the Halfmoon Road that is off Colo 300. Find Colorado 300 off Highway 24 south of Leadville about 4 miles. Leaving Colo 300 turn left after just under a mile and travel south on Lake County Road 11 for about a mile. Turn right on Halfmoon road for about 5 miles to the Halfmoon Campground. Continue past the campground for 2 miles to the Main Range Trailhead. This Trailhead is usually well marked and there is adequate parking on the right side.

Route Description

Follow the Main Range Trail for about 3 miles to the Mt Massive Trail. It is marked with a sign and turns left (w). Follow the Mt. Massive Trail to the summit. There is one place that requires a slight scramble.

Essential Gear

Regular Hiking gear with lots of water. No water on the trail if after June.
