From la Riposa
We arrived at Susa early in the morning and the valley was covered by dark clouds. We started to hike in the fog but, after Refuge Cà d'Asti, a wonderful blue sky welcomed us. Summited in 3,30 hours from the parking under the Refuge la Riposa and basked in the sun for nearly 2 hours on the summit.
Once back to La Riposa we got some tea and slices of different cakes ( apple pie, strudel, chocolate cake...). If you are around I suggest you to pay a visit there. The lady who manages the refuge is very nice and, obviously, a great cook.

highlight of the week
at the end of a one-week hiking trip along GTA (grade traversata delle alpi) route, starting at Ceresole Reale near Gran Paradiso, we climbed Rocciamelone from Rifugio Ca. d'Asti. A little hazy but great views. Not that many people during the week in September.
Route Climbed: normal italian route Date Climbed: 15th august 2005
my second climb to this beautiful and "special" mountain!
Who knows , that
- Roccialmelone's summit was climbed as earfy as 1357?
- On its top there's the highest church in Europe,
- a mess is regularly celebrated there (5th of august, - but also usually on sundays in summer and august 15th)
- the summit has already been reached in...2h15 from Susa (according to italian sources)
Definetly an easy walk to get up to it, as a warm up, an acclimatizing climb, a place to bring beginners, just for training or... for religious purposes!!! Everyone will be pleased ther with this italian touch!
Route Climbed: N ridge, from french side Date Climbed: aug 12th 1993
Bivouac near the Arcelle chalets, about 2100 m. in the Ribon valley. Followed the usual Rochemelon glacier right bank route. You seldom find many persons climbing that side...Nice weather.
Route Climbed: normal route Date Climbed: august 2001
I left at 6:00 the ca'dasti cabin en walked for about 2 hours to reach la crocetta. Because of the really bad weather i desided to return to te cabin. The path to la crocetta is a well marked trail and was not difficult at all, I don't know what the path to the summit is like.
