Reaching 2 Million

Reaching 2 Million

It's kind of silly to keep track, but on this climb I reached a lifetime accumulation gain of 2,000,000 vertical feet. My friend Josh Lewis took this photo of me near the summit of Dip Top Peak (7291 feet) August 16, 2015. Posted with his permission.

Note: I reached my first million June 3, 2012. The first took roughly 20 years.  The second million required 3 years 2 months and 13 days.  2 years, 1 month and 20 days after this photos was taken, I completed my 3rd million.

Congratulations

That is a lot of vertical; glad your knees held out :-)

Re: Congratulations

You bring up a good point. Knee or hip failures are some of my fears. But I understand that you can get replacement joints these days, even though they aren't as good as the original. A hiker I know just had a hip replacement and she's back to hiking now.

Silly to keep track?

Is it silly to keep track of vertical gain? Even if yes, you are not alone. I just checked my record in peakbagger: it shows 425019 feet. (I don't record everything, so in reality it must be around 500000 feet). Congratulation to your 2M record! And try to keep in mind that human body has limitations, and health is not less valuable than these records. I wish you the next 1M feet gain in good health!

Cheers, Szani
