Quartz Lake (4,790 ft) from...

Quartz Lake (4,790 ft) from its west side on Sept. 22, 2001. If doing the NE Ridge Route of Kyes, one basically travels right past this lake--either by way of the NE Ridge from Curry Gap (about 1.5 miles to the east) or the lake drainage at upper right in the photo (leaving the Quartz Creek Trail about 0.7 miles before Curry Gap). The latter approach to the upper NE Ridge of Kyes is probably shorter, but by no means am I an expert. We went up the NE Ridge from Curry Gap then went back to the trail (from Goblin Mountain) by way of the lake drainage.

Icebergs.

Paul,

This is some great scenery! Were thinking of trying Kyes Peak last fall but then the bad weather slammed the PNW prematurely.
