27
This was my 27th climb of Quandary. I wore snowshoes for the round trip. The snow was firm on the way up, and became spring soft on the way down. It was sunny with a SW wind.

Quandary Peak
This was the first of many climbs of Quandary. It has become an annual tradition to glissade down the Cristo couloir. On May 27, 01 I got married on top of Quandary and then the wedding party glissaded down.

1st 14er. Went well, except was super windy. I think I need to gain some weight (and I am not a petite girl), b/c the wind kept pushing me around.

glisading down Quandary
Earliest I have ever hiked a 14er. There was still quite a bit of snow on the summit. We were afraid we'd be posthollng through the snow but it was still firm enough that wasn't really a problem. Sure made it fun coming down. Just sit down and away you go!!!

Quandary via East Ridge
It was a hot, sunny day. At the summit people were quite comfortable just in shorts and t-shirts. Beautiful panoramic views. Ran out of water on the way down because it was so hot. Now I carry much more water than I think necessary because running out of water, even for a short time, is no fun.

Route Climbed: East Ridge - Winter.
Kelly and I started hiking up on compacted snow. The day was cloudy and windless.
Kelly got AMS just 20 minutes below the summit. So she started heading down while I ran up to the summit. Spent two minutes at the top, and I headed back to catch up with Kelly 5 minutes later.

At 59 - my First 14er : "Quandary Peak"
Tent-camped near the trailhead. 4:30A 44-deg Breakfast...6:20A on the trail, 11:45A Summit. Not bad for 59 and my first 14er! And you wouldn't believe the weather elements we had on the descent at the long ridge after the summit: Thunder/ rain/ hail/dense fog....but it finally all passed overhead. I did this climb with my cousin, 'Slow-but-Steady', who has completed 26 of the 52 CO 14ers. I am hooked forever! Planning our climb for next year!

This was my first fourteener. I was 10 years old, and it got me hooked for the rest of my life. A great first climb, I basically climbed it on a few M&Ms. Good route.

East Ridge
Enjoyed a lonesome stroll to the summit...met everybody else on the way down
I understand completely the need to preserve and restore fragil vegetation on heavily travelled 14NRS, but it should be noted that the new sustainable trail on Quandary with it's many rock steps(very impressive construction indeed)is harder on old knees, not to mention that the new trail keeps you high on rock, with no place to bail out, for a long period during storms.
this was my third 14er of the day. I was beat tired afterwards.

2nd time's a charm
Due to a very busy year, this was my first 14er. Great hike, tons of people on the trail due to the holiday weekend, and great weather! Clouds descended about 11AM but cleared away before turning dark.
This is my 2nd attempt at Quandary, the first done Nov 2005 when 60mph winds threatened to turn me into a kite before my friend and I turned back. Not a great day then.
