Portrait of Makalu with the West Pillar in the center of the photo. Kangchungtse (aka Makalu II) to the left. The normal route goes up to Makalu La, down and to the right of Kangchungtse, then up the NW ridge to the summit. November, 2002, from just below the steep headwall of Sherpani Col (~20,100' / 6,130 m).

Thanks Tim. The only problem is standing under that peak made me realize I am not really a mountaineer. I had no desire to go up there. We could hear the jet stream ripping across the summit.



The fact that the normal route is on the other side of the mountain maybe counts for something, but I was happy to just look at it from my vantage!

Nelson you know my first encounter with Nepal left me with a bad taste in my mouth BUT seeing pictures like this...like a sorbet, I'm getting ready for more!
