"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."

Nice viewsSuperb views during a cold but perfect day. The ferrata is heavily secured - no need to be afraid. Took the descent through the Fenêtre de ferret to the lacs de Fenêtre and from there a different trail back to Gd. St. Bernhard. 10h in all.

Pointe de Drône, August 2006I went up the Pointe de Drône from the Great Saint Bernard pass and down the other side, to La Fouly in Val Ferret (Swiss). I enjoyed that trail immensly, as especially on the way up from the Saint Bernard it is full of scrambling parts which were nothing to be afraid of and lots of fun! Going down to the Val Ferret takes you past the Lacs de Ferret on approximately 2500 meters and beautifully situated. The Swiss Val Ferret I have always seen as being one of Switzerland's most beautiful valleys, being very preserved, very original and offering many spectacular views due to it's situation right at the foot of the Mont Blanc massif (the Swiss portion). Going down the Italian side I find less rewarding, as you almost immediately end up just walking along the Great Saint Bernard road.

Route Climbed: Ferrata from Grand St. Bernard pass Date Climbed: Sep 10, 2000.On return trip from Lourdes pilgrimage, we spent night in Grand St. Bernard hospice. We had to continue travel at 8:30 a.m., but nevertheless decided to climb Grande Chenalette (2890 m) early in the morning. Start in dark at 5:00 a.m., amazing look at Mt Blanc, Gdes Jorasses, Grand Combin and Mont Velan changing appearance from dark night through dawn up to first beams of sunlight. More peaks in distance including Gran Paradiso. Easy walk-up (even at night) up to viewing platform, then short section through scree and almost oversecured ferrata. Total 2,5 h. Due to lack of time return via same path. Unfortunately not enough time for Pointe de Drone summit, but nevertheless an unforgettable experience!
