Misleading Summitpost info  Sucess!

Not sure how many climbers check Summitpost anymore, but the info on this page is wildly inaccurate at least in 2024. The summit of Pedro Mountain is on BLM land, not private property, and you can access it 100% legally if starting from the south on Mormon Basin Rd (look for the old Jeep road signed "unsuitable for cars & trailers" just up the road from Robinson Gulch). You do have to weave in and out and around a little bit (there's one random plot of private land in the middle) to make your way up to the east ridge, but it's not too bad with modern offline maps with land status layers like Gaia. I thought the views of the Wallowas were gorgeous and the whole area was quite pretty, not what the unimpressed climber reviews would have you believe. About 8.5 miles and 2800' cumulative gain from where we parked on Mormon Basin Rd. Hope this update helps someone else!

Mormon Basin Road  Sucess!

Parked along the South Fork Dixie Creek just off Mormon Basin Road. No fences or "no trespassing" signs visible to the north from here. Started directly up the steep slope to the north, jumped an unposted fence higher, and followed jeep trails then cross country. Drifted too far east on the ascent, but encountered no signs that way. Passing drivers seemed cordial where I parked.

Spooky  Sucess!

Hike in from Mormon Basin Rd. Round trip was 9.5 miles which wasn't so bad. It definitely wasn't a memorable one, but worth it you're working on the P2K list. Snow was gone and it was an easy bushwhack. A little spooky coming across hunting cabins in the middle of nowhere on private property. Glad to have this one off my back.

Alas!  Sucess!

completed the Eastern Oregon P2k's. Time to debate whether to work on finishing the state or expanding east into Idaho. Hiked up from Mormon Basin Road, route listed on this page is now gated. Followed this up with an evening summit of Sturgill Peak just across the border in Idaho.

Crosscountry  Sucess!

A cold wet snowy day in early June with Dean. Great hiking weather.

Backdoor route  Sucess!

In the wee hours of a sunday morning, Dennis and I found our way to the summit of this mountain after driving a 4WD road. It was then a 4 mile walk to get to the summit.
