This is the small handsome peak rearing up above the western-most Baboon Lake. If you need to acclimate, climbing this before heading up Powell or Thompson would be a good strategy. For locals, this would be a good training route from Sabrina Lake, with easy bailing to the West if a storm came in. There are fantastic views from the summit: Thompson Ridge and Mt Thompson; Mt Powell, Clyde Spires, Wallace, Haeckel, Darwin, Mendel.
Not sure why the Primary Image formatting cuts off the top of a mountain; this would be the last feature I would have on a mountaineering website.
Sabrina Lake TH to Blue Lake, then up to Donkey Lake. Then follow a use-trail to the Baboon Lakes. The peak is about a mile NNW of Mt Thompson.
See route pages.
A permit is required for backcountry camping and these are limited by a quota during the summer. Check with the ranger station in Bishop and at www.recreation.gov to reserve a permit.
Many large flat spots at the first Baboon Lake at 10,976. Or for car-to-car, there is camping at Sabrina CG and other campgrounds along route 168.
