Part of the crowd atop Lassen

Part of the crowd atop Lassen

On July 5th, 2004. Bob Bolton and I climbed Lassen Peak in California. When we arrived, only two others were on top. We were there about an hour and during that time 34 others arrived and so we headed down, meeting about another 100 or so who were headed up. Talk about crowds, this peak gets em. This pic only shows a few of those who were soon crowding the top. Avoid this peak on a summer weekend if it has good weather.

Dean, you're absolutely right...

Not that I don't enjoy the company of people - but Good God, it was pretty much this SAME way back in 1989. After descending Lassen, I went on to climb Schonchin Butte in Lava Beds Nat'l Monument. HEY, great views of the northeast profile of Shasta from there! And far less people - oh well ... TAKE CARE !!!

Re: Jeez...

Lassen in winter, congratulations. Yeah, doing this one in high tourist season isn't the best time to experience the peak. Kudos for sticking to it and getting this one.
