Blizzard

A very comfortable harness. I've had no problems fitting it over my clothing while on the mountain, and it's very easy to adjust. It's not heavy, is easy to clip into, and overall it performs its' duties with no complaints. As far as rock climbing goes, I've only used it indoors, and it performed like a champ. If you need a harness for both rock climbing and ice/alpine climbing, check this out before you buy anything....

I've used a Blizzard for about a year now for gym climbing twice a week to sport/trad climbs at Smith Rock to mountaineering in the Cascades and it's been great. Everything is adjustable and it's lightweight yet tough. Absolutely no problems so far or signs of wear. I couldn't be more pleased with a harness.

I've been using a BD Blizzard for the last 2+ years and have had no major complaints. I use it mostly for alpine climbing and it is comfortable whether over shorts or full on winter gear.



My only minor complaint is that the way the seams are sewn on the strap that connects the leg loops through the belay loop catches on the belay loop when walking. It is just a minor annoyance, nothing functional.

I wore this harness while in the French Alps from 9-13 September 2002. It easily adjusts from shorts to layered sets of trousers. It is very comfortable and presented no problems when having to urinate. I was able to hang extra equipment on the side loops. What more is there to say, except it is a super harness and I recommend it to anyone for general mountaineering in year round environments.

LOVE IT! Very comfortable, very adjustable for any body size, built solid. I used many different harnesses in the past, but not one of them felt as good as this one. An excellent choice for multi-pitch alpine climbing, on the crags or in the gym.

An excellent harness. Easy to put on, very adjustable, very comfortable, lightweight, etc. I use to own a BD Bod, and now have retired it. This harness is definately a step up from a Bod or Alpine Bod. The waist strap is padded with a more comfortable padding than the fleece on the Bod. The leg loops are well padded. The Bod is completely unpadded here. Also, the leg loops are designed better so they don't ride up and hurt like the Bod does for me.

I have the newer version of the Blizzard.But it was made for leftys. Most of the clipper slots are on the left side. Other than that I am very happy. Very comfortable, easy in and out, easy racking gear loops. All in all a great harness

I tried on a lot of different harnesses before deciding on this one. It fits well, is easily adjustable and is comfortable. I hung from all the various harnesses I tried on and this one let me hang confortably at a position that would let me do things - not always the case with some other brands. The buckles aren't these big monsters and the gear loops hang down. Don't know why some manufacturers have those things be up. Seems lightweight compared to others, too. I like the velcro at the waistband. Good basic harness for a reasonable price. My daughter bought one, too and at first we were worried we'd mix them up - turns out that they vary the colors a bit, so ours look differently. Nice touch!

Nadie give it to me in Christmas but I had not used it since the other day, rock-climbing in the granite of Patones. I felt well in the harness, it's light but I felt the pressure of the leg straps when you fall in non straight pitches, they are little narrow in my opinion. It has a lot of gear loops and comes in a big perforated bag. You can wear it in winter because of the adjustable straps and waistbelt. The buckles are very solid and there is an instruction draw in the waistbelt. The rear gear loop is very useful for hanging the magnesium bag. The gear ice clip must be nice for carrying the ice screws in winter. It's good that they have some sizes to choose. A contra is the high price here in Spain.

I used the Blizzard on three alpine trips so far and ice climbing last season. A great harness for any use. The ability to unbuckle every strap helps when wearing lots of layers.

I wanted a harness I could use for everything I could imagine myself doing the coming years. I’ve used it for sportsclimbing, alpine climbing, glaciers and ice climbing. I’ve even used it for cutting off some high branches of a 20m tree in the garden, but I guess that’s not an issue for most people.



The Blizzard is very confortable to use and easy to adjust. When I was hanging down in a deep crevasse on a glacier last summer waiting to be pulled up I didn’t feel any discomfort. The guys trying to pull me up was on a glacier course and used about 45 minutes to “rescue” me. The cold got to me first. Great harness!

A really comfortable harness for a hole range of uses.

I particularly like the ice clipper loops, it makes it a lot easier to rack ice screws

I have two other harnesses, a Misty Mountain Cadillac and a BD Alpine Bod. The BD Blizzard bridged the gap between the two for me. It's lightweight, packable, comfortable...perfect for those alpine climbs and ice cragging. A very nice pickup and addition to my gear collection.

This is a great harness like others have said you need to account for extra clothing when purchasing this if you planing on usuing it to it's full purpose. It is very comfortable and will give you a nice ride to the top,now all you have to do it start climbing!

I bought one based on the reviews on this page a while ago. I was not disappointed! This harness is very comfortable and easy to adjust. It has become my primary harness for climbing rock and glacier. Excellent padding makes it comfortable for those long days.

I've owned this harness for a little over a year and have had good luck with it. Keep in mind, this is more of an alpine harness. Although it says the gear loops are enlarged, mine doesn't seem that way. If anything, I'd say the gear loops are smaller than normal. This is fine, as it cuts down on weight, and if you're heading into the alpine region you probably already have things paired down so you're not carrying extra bulk. I wouldn't recommend this harness for everyday rock climbing IF you're one of those people who like to carry all your gear on your harness and not on a chest strap. That could be tricky. However, for the alpine environment, especially the extra-long waste belt, it is very well suited at 15oz.

I have only used this harness for a couple of climbs. But it is very comfortable and easy to walk in. I hardly even recognized that it was there due to it's comfort. It also appears to be built to last, which is a good thing.

I've owned Blizzards since 2002 and they never disappointed, from ice to rock to plastic.
