A great instructional piece that every mountaineer should check out. Goes over everything one needs in regards to techniques for moving in the mountains and on glaciers. Footage is shot in a number of locales, from Colorado, to the Sierras, to the Cascades, to Banff. Well worth the money, as with the Waterfall Ice video...

Covers about everything you need to know, but remember that watching a video is no way to learn climbing. Lowe is an excellent climber and covers a lot of material.

Jeff Lowe is not exactly a lively teacher (at least on video) so you may need an extra shot of espresso for this. The progress made by his "student" is not very realistic. Remember that she was a waterfall ice climber before this video was made so she is at home on the steep stuff.

i think this is an excellent Video. I watched this many times over. the information is construtive and informative Lowe covers all the skills needed for Alpine work. but watching the film dosnt mean that you know it. i used the film to get thoretical knowledge before attending a certificated winter skills course, were i was able to put the therory to pactice. i now feel confident with my skills. thanks to Jeff and the Scotish Mountain Guides. overall great tutorial Video well worth bying or borrowing form a friend.

Great Video!! Excellent content and scenery. This (and its 'waterfall ice' companion) are the videos I re-watch more than any others.

As other reviewers have said, videos are not the way to learn how to climb.

However, I do love to pop this one in and watch it before trips to refresh techniques, strategies and tactics in my mind.

Good old Geoff Lowe might not be a 'natural' as an actor, but watching him climb really gets me psyched to head out to the hills.

Excellent
From crampon technique, self-arrest, glissading and climbing ice with one or two ice axes, it's all there. Even if you already know the skills, this video can serve as a good refresher course.

The beautiful scenery in the different locales where the skills are demonstarted is certainly a plus. My only gripe is the music.

Does any of you have it digitalised?
Hi guys!
I'm reading the forum for years now, but never found the need to write any questions, as there was always a ready answer available. Not in this case...
Sorry to revive such an ancient post topic, but I am searching for this video for at least a year and couldn't find any source so far...
Does any of you still have the video in a digital format, or maybe on a vhs and would be willing to digitalise it?
I tried buying it, streaming services, pirate sites, facebook groups, anything and couldn't find it so far...
Have a great winter everyone :)
