Nice view!

And is that your dog? A white German Shepherd?

Re: Nice view!

No, Ejnar, not at all. This is the story: After exploring the cave of Potočka zijalka, two ladies came up. Jasmina said: "What a nice dog you have"! "It's not ours, just joined us below, near the farm", was the answer.

The we went on and the dog went with us. Over the section with steel cables and on the first summit. As we stopped there, the dog went with other hikers on the main summit - always with the first ones! There others stopped and with Jasmina we just continued. And the dog with us - all the long ridge towards the east. There we could see him a bit nervous, perhaps not knowing well where he is. When two locals came up, we thought he will join them, but continued with us. Below, on the road, he first spoiled Jasmina's hitch hike. A car stopped, but when the dog started to howl on the driver, he drove further. I guess the dog didn't want to continue by the road alone. And, he got a sausage from me, at the end. So he was doing with us the whole 6 hours tour and only when we reached our car, he went to the nearby farm - his home, I guess.

Re: Nice view!

What a nice story, and what strange behaviour by the dog! Did he really want to go mountain climbing for six hours, and on quite difficult terrain? It seems so, but apparently he didn't want to do it alone, dogs of course are very social animals. It might have been interesting to know if he often went on climbs like that: Perhaps that might make his owners nervous, he looked like a well-kept and fed dog.

You should probably be proud that he chose to follow you, we have a saying here about dogs being better judges of peoples character than humans are!

Re: Nice view!

Ha, ha, thanks about the last judgement, Ejnar! OK, we treated him well, he received half of the only sausage I had, but that's all. He was probably only curious and enjoying the freedom which his owners are giving to him.

Ohhhh, very nice...

...dog and wonderful story!
Love the dogs, i had two Huskies, female and male, mother and son, climbing in the mountains with me. The last one died in 2007, and i have not yet found the courage to replace him. But i also can say - as Ejnar - that they understand much more of what we think about humans...they maybe have a sixth sense...

Re: Ohhhh, very nice...

Yes, you are right, Silvia. We also always had dogs at house, but now as the oldest sun moved, we don't have any. As long as animals are not replacements for human relations, they are wonderful!
