Old Trees

The oldest known (as of 03-04-08) living Pinus monophylla (Singleleaf Pinyon Pine) resides on Pilot Peak, crossdated to 1106AD by Scotty Strachan. The tree is likely another few decades older, as the cores for dating were taken at breast height and do not contain the pith. Beside it is a virtual twin tree, dated to a similar age. Both trees appear to be in decent health, and are well-protected from fire.

Nice information

I'm hoping to get to Pilot this spring. Would you happen to have gps coordinates on where to visit these trees?

Normally it's considered taboo in the field to do so, given what's happened to other "special" trees, such as some Bristlecones. These trees in some ways are even more fragile in terms of their environment.
