Thanks, Martin. This mountain is where I got my introduction to scrambling. I can't believe I let my antipathy for crowds keep me away from it for so long instead of making an effort to find the solitude or just enjoying it as it is.
for a change, huh? Old Rag is where I was intro'd to organized hikes in the US ... sad to realize that red tape and overcrowding got even worse over the decades, but sure winter is one way to avoid the throngs. No dipping in White Oak tho' LOL
Yes, all the red tape and crowding have gotten worse, which explains my staying away from the mountain for over ten years after climbing it at least once a year for 3 or 4 years straight.
The haze? It's a rare day between April and November now that you don't have the haze. Very sad. Summer is the pits (good thing I spend the summer more out your way).
And I don't dip in Whiteoak Canyon even in the summer. I learned that lesson the COLD, hard way long ago! Nothing past the knees!
yeah the clear day makes a big difference here in the photos I've seen, and the photos I took myself on Old Rag. The snow is always nice scenery too. Thanks for bringing back the goods.

Re: niceThank you for the kind feedback. Yes, a clear day makes such a huge difference here, and such days are getting rare. Winter is best for them.
