Summiting from Chaupi
Hey. This is great information but this hike is much more beautiful from the Chaupi side. For more information go here: https://hikeecuador.wordpress.com/2018/02/16/corazon/
If you're going up Corazon, ignore the old pages and posts from 10+ years ago about going from the Machachi side. The road has been wiped out, and where the jeeps will drop you off is a huge day to get to the top, getting close to 6,000 vertical feet and ~13 miles. Back before the road wiped out it may have been a viable route, but not anymore. The GPS track you may find online is wildly inaccurate too, the trail hasn't been used in years so it is overgrown and a bushwhack. It was miserable for us going up this way.
Go from the Chaupi side, everyone does it that way these days, much shorter and accessible. The road isn't great, but it'll get you there. Either go with a guide, or take the blue bus from Machachi into Chaupi, and ask a local taxi driver there in the square to take you up the trailhead. Arrange a time for return before he leaves.

Re: Summiting from ChaupiYou link to a great route description. Why not add it here as a route and link back to the blog as the original source?
