A very nice hike with outstanding views of Front Range mountains to the north. A lot of great color in the aspen groves on the lower slopes. Maybe the best "color hike" close to Denver.
Route Climbed: West Slopes Date Climbed: March 31, 2004
Had itchy feet and decided to make the hike in the dark. The easy to follow 4WD road made the hike a breeze. I didn't find the shortcut around 11,300 and instead followed the road until I could see the peak. I only hiked North Twin Cone, but had amazing views with the moonlight and clear skies.

My first Twin Cone summit was South Twin Cone (along with Mount Blain) in May. Subsequently I have been up North Twin Cone twice. North Twin Cone is an excellent winter excursion... just don't forget the sunblock! Last time I went up it I started in a snow squall which gave way to sunny skies... I can feel the melonoma festering...

January ClimbMade the summit on a very, very cold and windy day. Pleasant in the trees, brutal wind on the peak.
