Crap-ons

I remember taking an acquaintance up Mt. Hood. And his crampons would not fit. I kinda got upset why he had not pre-fitted beforehand to check. Turns out that the spring-loaded pins had slipped out and shortrned his crampons. Sitting idle on a cold mountain with bare hands is no place to waste a half hour fumbling with crampons! Thank you for your post!

Re: Crap-ons

I know exactly how you feel there. It's even worse with snowshoes when your lousy pair of snowshoes completely fall off, you have to take your gloves off, and melt the ice out. And to make it worse its freezing out, the winds are howling and your hands can hardly work, it's getting late, and everyone is running down the mountain. I had this happen to me once.

Re: Prep ?

Prep is right. I've already climbed Rainier, a miscalculation of fuel I found out can be a very serious problem in the mountains. I post my mistakes online in hopes that people will learn from them. But I knew it would be a bit of a experiment doing this. I wanted to get a taste of what it's like to be a mountain guide on this trip. It was certainly worth while!

Re: Beautiful

Thanks! Some amazing moments that at times I was too busy watching over the team to capture. I did my best to what I thought was a moment where I could capture photos. On the way in my camera battery actually died on me, but thank goodness I brought a spare battery!
