Animal Mountain  Sucess!

The official name for this mountain may be New Pass Peak, but if it were up to me, I'd call it Animal Mountain. On the way up, I saw lots of open range cows, one deer, a group of a dozen or so horses (wild?), and quite a few Mormon crickets. It's pretty much a drive-up in an adequate vehicle, though the road does get rough and steep towards the end. I made it with a stock Ford Explorer; a passenger car like a Camry or a Prius wouldn't be able to handle that drive.

End of the day  Sucess!

Drove up as the last light of the day was fading. Found the benchmark but not the register. We camped at the flat spot at 7500 feet and called it a day. We had hiked up Moses Peak to the north earlier.

New Pass Mine Route  Sucess!

Started on New Pass Mine road (mine buildings were occupied).
Climbed up to county line ridge and followed to summit. This route requires some bushwacking, sidehilling and minor elevation loss. Passed some trailers above the mine so I wasnt sure if I was traversing private property (not posted).

Dayhike  Sucess!

Drove slightly past the flat area to about 8,100' where snowdrifts covered the road. Hiked along the road the rest of the way.
