Nesting Sandhill Cranes

Nesting Sandhill Cranes

This is, alas, a roadside shot of nesting sandhill cranes in Island Lake, Yellowstone NP. This pair has been nesting there for several years, and they tend to return to the nest about 7:00 pm each spring evening. This picture was taken in mid-June 2008. For a backcountry shot of a sandhill chick with parents, see here.

Re: island lake?

Yes, that's the one. This pair has been there for some years now. According to Wikipedia, they live up to 25 years in the wild, so expect to see them for a while still!
