Near Komodo Island, Indonesia

On a boat in Indonesia headed for Komodo Island to see the famous Komodo Dragons. Before I got into climbing I discovered budget world travel. A lot of the things I like about travel translate over to the appeals of climbing: living in the moment and experiencing some of the most beautiful and unique places in the world. This is from back in the day in 1992 when I was twenty years old and living my dream of traveling the world. I took a year off from school between my sophomore and junior years of college and paid for my trip along the way by working in Australia on a student working holiday visa.

On my way to Australia I took extended layovers totaling five weeks in Fiji and New Zealand. I’m wearing a t-shirt from AJ Hackett Bungy Jumping in Queenstown, New Zealand and the t-shirt drying in the breeze is Fiji's most popular beer, Fiji Bitter.
