Mystery Ice

Mystery Ice

We saw this thin ice fall to the right of the cable tracks while hiking up to Horsetail Falls in June Lake. Does anyone ever try to climb this formation? (Maybe when the ice is a little thicker?) Do you know what this ice fall is called? (1-17-09)

Tatum Falls ?

I cracked open my copy of SP Parker's Eastern Sierra Ice and noted that his pic looks a lot like this. Here's his description-

To the right (north) of the tramline as you walk up is Tatum Falls. These offer short pillars and low-angled ice in between and are fun when the weather is cold. However this area does get a lot of sun and should not be climbed on when temperatures are warm.

Never climbed it myself.

Re: Tatum Falls ?

Huh! I bet that IS Tatum falls then. It looked plenty cold when we were there but still seemed a little thin. Would be interesting to explore sometime... thanks Rob.
