Nice little viewpoint
The trail has been "reconstructed" to good standards by the JPL Hiking Club, though the best canyon views are below the actual summit. Done with Inspiration Point and Peak, Easter Rock, and Peak 4910 from Eaton Saddle.

No pack
Was more exciting than it should have been because I left my backpack at home. Left the car with two bottles of water. It was enough.

Castle Canyon Trail
After hiking the Sam Merrill trail to Echo Mountain, continued up the Castle Canyon trail to Muir Peak. Rain started just below the summit and continued for the next 1.5 hours. After Muir Peak, continued to Brown Mountain.

obscure
included as part of a hike to easter rock, ip, lowe, and echo. its a weird peak, off the beaten path and not well known, but overall id say its worth it and not too far down from inspiration point.

From Inspiration Point
Tagged Muir after taking the Sam Merrill Trail and Mt. Lowe Rd to Inspiration Point. A few tricky spots with the snow, but nothing serious. Rewarding views from the summit.

Nice bonus
Planned on doing Echo Mountain and Inspiration Point. Hiked up the road from Inspiration Point and ran into a use trail and a sign indicating Muir Peak. Best view of the day from Muir Peak.

Lower Sam Merrill to Castle Canyon
Nice Saturday morning tagging Echo and then on up to Inspiration Point. Headed east along the fire road about 100 yards and then followed the use trail to the top of the south ridge following it east up and down about a half mile to summit of Muir. Very Nice views there and along the way.

Nice
Nice views, trail a bit overgrown. Summited as part of the Echo, Inspiration Point, Muir triplet. Heading up the trail from Inspiration, the turnoff is easy to miss on the right hand side.

Never again on this route...
I climbed Muir once before via Echo Mountain, Castle Canyon, etc., but out of boredom I decided to climb it via the south face, the most primitive of routes. Nothing but animal trails through painful and crowding bushes and about 3500' gain in 2 miles. Started at a small clearing from the Altadena Crest trail. If you don't mind a LOT of bushwhacking and some borderline class 3 near the top, go right ahead.

Nice Peak
Climbed up Echo Mountain from Rubio Canyon and continued to Inspiration Point via Castle Canyon. Hiked to Muir Peak and returned to Inspiration Point on the ridge leading west from Muir Point. Continued up Inspiration Peak before returning down Castle Canyon and Lower Sam Merril.

From Cobb Estate TH: hit Echo Mtn, Muir Pk, Inspiration Pk, Mt Markham and Mt Lowe. Hiked with Gordon, Coco the Dog, and Sophie the Dog on a very hot April day. Up Castle Canyon/East Lowe trails and down the Mt Lowe railline/West Lowe trails.

whoops, wrong peak
I hiked up from Lake Ave to tag Muir, Inspiration and Mount Lowe, however it now looks like I climbed the wrong peak for Muir, I climbed peak 4668 ft not peak 4688 ft. duh!
