W/ Yadahzoemtn on a breezy but pleasant day. Parked at 10,700' and hiked the remainder of the road. Met Mark Adrian on top. Nice scramble from 11, 170' (end of road). Nevada CoHP #15. We would get the remaining 2 the following two days. Also did Corey Peak later just to make sure we weren't slighting an alternate CoHP!

Mount Grant
Called and gained permission the morning of and made the drive to Hawthorne Army base from Carson City. Because I was getting a bit of a late start I opted to drive part of the way up. I started my hike at the junction of Cottonwood Canyon and Mt Grant road. Around 10 miles RT from there. Fun scramble at the top.
Haven't not hiked in a couple months, I couldn't believe I still managed to finish in under 6hr. Aside from the struggle, the Mt Grant Challenge is a hiker's dream come true: drinks, snacks, bathrooms, and shade every 3mi...and a ride back downhill!
Did the half-challenge offered for the first time this year, from the 9 mile mark to the finish line, then the scramble to the summit.
Event was very well organized with lots of volunteers, refreshment stops on the way, and vans/trucks to take people back down.
Event is fundraiser for Hawthorne Veterans Park

2014 Mt Grant Challenge
Very well organized event - took about 5:45 to go from start to the top. Plenty of refreshments offered by volunteers throughout the hike, could have left my pack at home. Good time, great views, highly recommended if you haven't done it. Trip report is HERE.

Superb views and a sweet (and challenging) dirt run - this run should be a classic. Great to meet so many nice people on the summit. Acclimatized by summiting Dunderberg Peak the day before.

as part of 2012 Mt. Grant Memorial Challenge
I signed up a team of four (Steven Stembridge, Justin McEwen, John Tennert and myself) and we joined about 50 to 60 others in hiking Mt. Grant as part of the annual Memorial Challenge hike. We enjoyed the weather, the great company, and especially the hard work of all those that made the event possible.

Almost a highpointer convention
This could have been a HP-er convention, so many came from all over the nation. Jerry and Betty Brekhus drove in from Montana, HP-ing on the way. Peter Anderson came in from Virginia, Bob Burd from Fresno, Bob Bolton and I came down from Vancouver, WA and Dave Coville flew in from Colorado. About a hundred folks made the trek which included about 35 county highpointers from across the country. I made the summit in 5 hours, 51 minutes - a great day!
Organizers and volunteers did a great job with Mt. Grant Memorial Challenge. Great to see cohp'ers from near and far. The 3 bears and bighorn sheep were an extra treat.

"9/11 Mount Grant Memorial Challenge"
This was a very well-organized event. Special thanks to all those organizers and volunteers who made this event a big success. I got to see some of my peakbagging friends, and I made a few new ones. I hiked the final 7.5 miles to the true summit. This was my 90th USA CoHP.
Hiked this one with 98 other folks + volunteers for the 1st Mt. Grant Challenge. The event was a blast. Saw a black bear, cubs and Big Horn Sheep. Very cool.

Lapon Canyon
Drove in from the North with views of a very snowy north face, but actually the route was almost entirely snow free. I parked at 6700' when a hit a short rough section and was uncertain of the conditions ahead. You could however drive to about 7000' where there is a campsite. Beyond this point the road is overgrown with willows, and only a short bit further, there are large angular boulders in the road. If you walk to the end of Lapon Cyn Rd, you only have less than 1/2 mile of x-country before hitting the upper roads and generally easy terrain at the top. There were lots of signs of bear activity and I ran into one in the lower part of the canyon.
