Approach


Approach to Upper Ball Lake. Start out by ascending the boulder field on the northeast side of the lake up to the ridge at 6,800 feet. Now scramble east up to unnamed mountain 7,025, on 2nd and 3rd class terrain. Decend down the ridgeline to the north then back up peak 7,070 on more 2nd and 3rd class. The descent to the base of the Southeast Ridge of Pyramid Peak is steep and exposed 3rd or 4th class.

Route Description


The route basically follows the ridge directly up to the summit. The ridge itself is mostly 2nd class rock with a few setions of 3rd and 4th class. There are also several opportunites for soloing short sections of 5th class rock. It is a fun route to scramble, and the views to the east and west are fantastic.

Note that the climbing is 2nd class if you stay off the ridge crest and on the east or south face.
