Approach

Starting point is the Olympic stadium in Partenkirchen (parking, 30 min. on foot from the train station Garmisch-Partenkirchen)

Route Description

The hike begins with the very interesting Partnach Klamm. The Partnach Klamm is a narrow canyon, cut deep into the lime stone by the Partnach River. Entrance fee.
Having passed the Partnach Klamm, one continues on well paved and marked pathes up the Reintal (not to be confused with the big German river Rhein).
A leisurely, very easy hike, not much gain of altitude. On passes a small lake (Blaue Gumpe). At the end of the valley, the Reintalanger Hut refreshes the hiker.
Now the hike starts to get more serious. A steep ascent of 700 m leads up to the next hut, the Knorr Hut. The Knorr hut is situated at the bottom of a wide high limestone plateau (called Platt which means flat, ski resort in winter). Usually, one find some snow patches here. One hikes up another 700 m to the Schneeferner House (mountain station of the Zugspitzbahn). Some scrambling (cables) gets us finally to the summit.

Alternatively, there is a more difficult and interesting way to get to Reintalangerhütte. From Kreuzeck (cable car) via the so called Schützensteig (some scrambling I, most marked path). From Kreueck to Mauerscharte (1900 m) and then slowly descending on the south side of the Blassen ridge. 5-6 h from Kreuzeck, hot in summer, no water!
