Italy from Velebit

Italy from Velebit

View to remember! Long streak of peaks on the horizon, all the way across the Adriatic sea, is Apennines range, or the spine of Italian boot. On the right is Monti Sibillini group with Monte Vettore (2476m) on the left end. In the middle is Monti della Laga group with Monte Gorzano (2458 m). Finaly the left group is Gran Sasso d'Italia with Corno Grande (2912m), it's highest peak. Distance is 270km (170 miles), seen on amazingly clear day in February from the slopes of Sveto Brdo (1751 m). P.S. Thank You Chandra for recognizing all the peaks. Photo: Aleksandar Gospic

Fantastic distance

Too much earth curvature for the Monte Rosa!

Re: Fantastic distance

haha, that's a good one ;-) There are quite a lot of 'crystal' clear days here but so far this was clearest day ever that I've experienced on Velebit. Everything that wasn't bellow horizon was visible. It's a pitty Mont Blanc doesn't have 8000+ meters but even that wouldn't be enough I guess, maybe if Mons Olympus from Mars stood there!
