North Face?

Martin,

I can't for the life of me figure out how this is the North Face of Simmons. Can you identify the lake in the foreground? If it is Lake 11,275ft one would expect more snow on the northeast aspect of the peak. Viewed from the north, Simmons looks something like this:

Is this possibly a view from the west?

Re: North Face?

Bob,

Perhaps Northwest Face would be a better name. The bit with the shadows is the same bit seen directly below the word Simmons in your photo. The lake is west and slightly north of the peak. The ridge right of the peak is the West Ridge.

This reminds me that I still need to put up some route pages.

Re: North Face?

Ah, got it. Yes, I would have called that the NW Face. In fact at least one of the register entries referred to the route I took as the NW Ridge, so I was thinking the North Face was on the east side of the crest.
