Scree heaven or hell.Columbia's West Slopes Route can be hell to climb but descending is scree skiing at its best. Although I am guilty of scree skiing in my past, it's not the best way to keep our mountains in good shape. The only problem with getting Columbia's summit is that the easiest route involves a long traverse from Harvard. After you get Columbia's summit it's an obvious choice of descent, down the west slopes into Horn Fork Basin. So this descent route is pretty torn up as I recall. I wouldn't be surprised to see a trial dug into this route one of these days, it might be for the better.
