I wonder if someone was similarly perched when the rock fell off? That would have been pretty exciting!

:-) Indeed! I learned within the last year or two that the official disappearance date of that boulder was during the "winter of '82". Whether that was 81-82 or 82-83 I don't know, but at least it was between 75 and 86.
