I know for a fact that there are two dogs that are ADK 46ers and that club allows them to be full members.

Dogs and fowls ....Hi John Scoles,
I know a similar story: For our last election of Tübingen's Lord Mayor, we had a lark-candidate from the group of regulars, called "our fowl". The chairwoman of this group of regulars was the fowl or rather the hen of a professor of medicine at the University of Tübingen whom I know (I mean, I know the professor personally as well as I was personally acquainted with the hen ;o), really, that's no joke! ....Every semester, I visited this professor and his wife with a group of about 10 students for a discussion group .... the hen(s) [now, he has 2 young and very beautiful special Argentinian hens] have, of course, always been one of the main topics of the discussions as well as all the other fauna in his house ;o)) So, I hope I have given you a good image of what german students are doing all the time ;o) ....
The hen did not live very long anymore after the election (which the lark-candidate of her club lost, of course - but he was an official candidate named on the official list and he also did a very good election campaign by writing good satirical stuff in the newspaper). The election was probably too stressful for the hen. She was buried in the professor's garden ... but she still lives in the memory of all inhabitant's of Tübingen, since, of course, her death has also been made publically in the newspaper - as it is the sense and goal of daily newspapers to give people the most important news of the world ...

Wallpaper ....John, I really like this photo with this dog sitting in the snow on the mountain and looking so suspicious - maybe at some crazy climbers coming up?? It's a great shot!
I would really love to have it as wallpaper on my desktop for a while. Is it maybe possible that you mail me the photo in a bigger size which would be useful for a wallpaper? But please do not send me more than 1,5 MB since my modem is not so fast ;o).

Re: Wallpaper ....Rahel, it's great that you would like to use this as your wallpaper. I like doing the same thing (when I don't feel guilty about using up memory resources ;-) and even resized a few photos in the past for people on my website's wallpaper collection.
If you can resize the photo yourself, I can send you the original 2048x1536 jpeg which is only 698 KB. Or I can resize it to whatever resolution(s) you would like. Just let me know :-)
Hmm... should SP host a wallpaper collection? I can see how this could get wildly out of hand and start eating up disk space quickly ;-)

Re: Wallpaper ....Thanks for the mail, John! I resized it. I have only problems at the bottom where the dog's feet are being cut by the task-line (correct word?). I've to look into it. Would be fun to have a wallpaper collection on SP.

Re: Wallpaper ....Hmm... I see what you mean Rahel. The snowline by the dog's feet is pretty low on the photo. If you are using MS Windows, the easiest way to get around the issue is to set the "auto-hide" feature on the MS Taskbar. In the US version of windows the menu item is:
Start > Settings > Taskbar & Start Menu...
In the configuration box, click "Auto Hide" and then the taskbar will disappear when you don't need it and appear when you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen. Other options would be to edit the photo and build in a buffer on the bottom, etc. If you are using KDE (Linux) or something else, then I can't help you ;-)

Dog's feet problem fixedRahel, it turns out that there's no problem with the photo. I just sent you the wrong one! What happened is that while I was shooting away, there were two photos where the dog was looking in the same direction but slightly different. I've sent you the correct one (one on SP) via email. thanks for your second mail with the other photo. Yes, somehow, I was wondering myself but I confess, I did not compare the first photo you mailed me with the one of SP - although the differences of the dog's facial expressions are quite big: on the photo on SP, the dog looks very suspiciously, on your second photo more amiably. When I'm comparing both photos now, I confess, I like more the dog on the first photo you mailed me although the one which you submitted on SP is objectively better because of the better position of the dog on the photo altogether. Maybe you could submit it on SP as well ;o). Maybe I could really try to make something like "a buffer on the bottom" you were talking about although, at present, I actually don't know how to do it ....
