Congestion on the hog back... [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Congestion on the hog back...
Congestion on the hog back route on Mt. Hood. You can see the famous bergscrund about 1/3rd of the way down in the pic (from the top) but it was easily skirted on the left or right. The clouds soon swallowed up the summit. Memorial day weekend is apopular time to climb Mt. Hood. 5-24-03 canon G3

Wow Dean, you finally made it out to the mountains. I have only been seeing your stuff from 20 years ago. Nice shot, 4 stars. Catch you there next weekend if you head back over. How were the conditions & Bergy? Anybody coming up the WCR?

Thanks ( I think) The bergscrund was fine (I was solo) and you couldd've actually done all the way to the summit without crampons as the temperture never dropped below freezing. It was 45 degrees on the hogback. Lots of rock fall on the steel cliffs but fortunately, not in the pearly gates area during the time I was there. It was almost harder going down than it was going up and believe it or not, snowshoes would have made life tolerable on most of the descent

I didn't see anyone coming up the WCR but then there was no visibility at the summit thanks to the clouds.

Plans for this summer include Mt. Adams, Mt. Daniel, Mt. Stuart and perhaps Glacier Peak. Bob B and I just missed a chance to do Shasta last week but as you can see, I'm back.

Your pictures are great (Bob was showing me your new fototime album), truly a joy! About summer plans, don't forget North Gardner. ;-) We'll try to keep up.

Great shot Dean. It's amazing how many people go up there on a holiday weekend. Even more than last year, despite the marginal weather. I checked out your gallery of 20 shots. Very nice, thanks for posting.

Thanks Martin for your nice comment(s). It was truly an amazing day. I plan to go back sometime when there is a view to take in. Have a great time next weekend.
